Discomfort can open the door to awe. At Awe Together, this matters deeply. Awe is not found only in sunsets, mountaintops, and answered prayers. Sometimes awe meets us in the middle of a struggle.

There is a holy kind of wonder that comes when we realize God is sustaining us in ways we did not notice before. We see awe when:
Grace helps us endure a season we never would have chosen (2 Corinthians 12:9)
Strength appears that we know did not come from us alone (Isaiah 40:29-31)
God remains faithful when we are not (2 Timothy 2:13)
An indescribable peace holds us together (Philippians 4:7)
Discomfort strips away illusions of self-sufficiency and reminds us of our need for God. This need is not a failure; it's an invitation. Indeed, some of the deepest moments of awe come when we discover that Christ is enough, even in the wilderness.
We Do Not Seek Pain for Its Own Sake
However, this perspective does not mean that all suffering is good. Nor does it mean we glorify burnout, ignore wisdom, or chase hardship to prove something. Discomfort carries meaning when it is connected to values and purpose, rather than when it results in pointless harm.
We do not pursue pain for the sake of pain, nor do we run from every hard thing. When discomfort comes as part of loving well, obeying God, telling the truth, serving faithfully, or staying rooted in hope, it can transform us, building character and hope that does not disappoint (Romans 5:3-5).
Everyday Acts of Endurance: Where Faith Grows
God often grows us not by removing the challenge, but by meeting us within it. You may wonder how this looks in ordinary life; after all, most of us are not running ultramarathons. Yet, in different ways, we all face moments that require endurance.
Maybe your discomfort looks like:
Trusting God when the future feels unclear
Choosing obedience when comfort would be easier
Stepping into a calling that feels too big for you
Staying faithful in a quiet season
Showing up for a relationship that needs repair
Grieving honestly instead of numbing out
These moments matter, even if they seem small. They are the training ground of the soul. Every small act of faithfulness builds spiritual endurance, and each choice to trust grows us.
Keep Going in Him
Rachel Entrekin's race reminds us that human beings can endure more than we imagine. By God's grace, we can be transformed through what we endure. If you are in a hard season right now, take heart. Your discomfort may not be the end of the story. It may be the place where God is deepening your faith, strengthening your character, and teaching you to depend on Him in new ways.
Keep going. Stay open. Endure. The road may be long. Your legs may feel heavy. Doubt may whisper that you are not made for this. In Christ, you are never running alone.
Let your discomfort lead you to awe–watch for it, seek it, and allow it to transform you. Choose to take your next faithful step today, trusting that you are never alone, and awe awaits you as you move forward in faith.
