Our Story
The idea for AWE Together was born on a crisp October morning in Hatch, Utah, just outside of Bryce Canyon National Park. I was running downhill through a dramatic red and orange landscape peppered with Ponderosa pines and fir-spruce pine forest, the buttery-soft single track beneath my feet, and the sun streaming through the trees in a way that felt almost otherworldly.
As I moved effortlessly through the landscape, the lyrics of The Battle Hymn of the Republic surged through my mind: "Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord; He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored...His truth is marching on."
In that moment, something inside me shifted. The sheer beauty of the scene—the golden light, the fresh air, the effortless rhythm of the run—collided with the profound truth of those words. My brain broke. It was as if my senses and spirit had aligned in a way they never had before. I suddenly became aware that I felt completely overwhelmed by the glory around me. I realized in a fresh way that the majesty I observed was only a small part of the grandeur of the entire universe.
I had encountered a little piece of the glory of the Lord. I believe that the incident opened me up to an entirely new, more experiential way of approaching my relationship with God. This account reflects a true experience of awe, and it was proven to be one of the most profound moments in my life.
Understanding and cultivating awe can serve as a vital key to Christian formation. I know that moment changed me. It sparked a deep curiosity about awe—what it is, why it moves us, and how it transforms us. I began to explore the science behind awe and its profound effects on our minds, bodies, and souls. These moments of awe don’t just inspire us—they connect us to something greater, to each other, and to the divine.
This realization ignited a passion in me to share what I had experienced. I wanted others to know that awe isn’t just a fleeting feeling; it’s a transformative force that can deepen gratitude, nurture creativity, and foster meaningful connections. And so, AWE Together was born—a space to explore, celebrate, and embrace awe in all its forms.
